I do have turbo write (reconstruct write) turned on and my parity was completed before I started all the transfers. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I've only started using unraid for the past week so I'm still trying to find my way around the hundreds of settings available. My array consists of two WD120EDAZ and two WD120EMFZ drives.

RAID 5 requires at least three disks, but it is often recommended to use at least five disks for performance reasons.

Mar 15, 2010 · Finally, the controller died. I still have the drives as I'm laboring under the assumption I will one day be able to reconstruct the array using disk forensics software, but really, if I've gone this long, I don't know that it's worth it. RAID-1 has the benefit of being more easily recovered even if the controller dies.
That can be debated. A DYI NAS that does the job can be done pretty easily using RAID Z2 [1]. However, an unRAID appliance has some flexibility where one can add more hard disks as one sees fit dynamically without having to rebuild the entire array. Next to an EMC Isilon (which has 3+ nodes connected via Infiniband), this does the job quite well.

You're correct with the first few GB going fast because its filling the available RAM. Then it bogs down as its writing to the server. A potential workaround is to enable "reconstruct write". This makes transfers to a parity protected array MUCH faster. Settings->Disk Settings->Tunable (md _write_method)-> select "reconstruct write" - hit 'apply'
Then I want to just abandon unread result. I don't use buffer option which, as I know, will read all This question is Not duplicate of Python MySQL connector - unread result found when using fetchone.
Jun 10, 2019 · You first get a read of the relevant sector on both the parity drive and the array drive. UnRAID then calculates the changed sector contents and writes the sector back to the data drive and the parity drive. With dual parity you get a read and write operation on that drive as well.

Jun 24, 2017 · A quick TL;DR is that we use SnapRAID to calculate a snapshot of parity data we can use to recover data if a drive fails. I don't pretend to understand the mathematics behind parity but essentially using the arrangement of 1s and 0s from parity, SnapRAID can reconstruct data from a failed drive entirely.

Sep 22, 2016 · I suppose it would depend on number of drives involved, and how much faster the mover will run with turbo writes vs. traditional read/write. I mean, if you've got a minimal array of 2 data drives and 1 parity, and using turbo means spinning up 3 drives instead of 2, but those 3 are spun up for half the time, it will end up with fewer drive-hours up and running each night. ) # InternalError: Unread result found. unRAID has this limit because dozens of drive are simply not fit for snapRAID approach. It would be too slow on check, unable to do reconstruct write, and so on. This amount of drives is possibly too much to have in any single RAID. Check out things like GlusterFS. Or Ceph (which is more complicated).
